Graduate School of UNIMED and Kyushu University Realize Cooperation Through Visiting Lecturer Program

Several graduate programs at Universitas Negeri Medan—comprising the Doctoral Program in English Applied Linguistics; Master’s Program in English Applied Linguistics; Master’s Programs in French Education, Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Sports Science, and Economics—held a Visiting Lecture in collaboration with Kyushu University, Japan.
The event, held online via Zoom on Thursday (23/01/2025), featured Prof. Tsunenori Mine as the guest lecturer from Kyushu University, Fukuoka.

The program was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Dr. Zulkifli, M.Sn., who highlighted that the event aims to introduce students and lecturers to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in text and data analysis within education. He emphasized that this collaboration is a major step in exposing UNIMED’s academic community to cutting-edge technology and fostering AI-driven problem-solving skills in the digital age.

In his presentation, Prof. Tsunenori Mine focused on how AI can be applied in text and data mining, including:

  • analyzing learning behavior,

  • developing data-driven curricula,

  • improving teaching quality.

  • He also addressed participants’ curiosity by sharing insights about Japan’s education system, the growth of Kyushu University, and historical visits by notable scientists such as Albert Einstein.

The program not only provided exposure to emerging technologies but also deepened participants’ understanding of various AI tools that can be applied to enhance learning effectiveness and support data-informed decision-making in education.
